Once every four years, the voters of Philadelphia have the opportunity to choose candidates for Mayor and City Council. Now is our chance to persuade candidates to embrace the challenge of a more sustainable local economy.

ISSUES & RECOMMENDATIONS: HIGHLIGHTS

  • Improve the climate for small business in Philadelphia. Improve service portals, simplify the tax process, eliminate unnecessary provisions and connect the support system.
  • Prioritize local & sustainable business procurement by city government, universities, & other institutions. Make procurement easier, greener, and local!
  • Advance the City’s Green City, Clean Waters plan. Pledge commitment, improve coordination, create an innovation hub.
  • 20,000 Solar Homes by 2025. Make tax abatement policies sustainable, educate consumers, solar jobs for youth.
  • Strengthen the partnership between the City and Certified B-Corps.  Double the sustainable business tax credit and apply it to profits. Expand “Jump Start” for Certified B-Corps. 

THE PURPOSE OF THE GOOD ECONOMY CHALLENGE

  • To persuade candidates for Mayor and City Council to embrace the Good Economy Challenge’s issues.
  • To spread the message, build support, and energize members and allies.
  • To demonstrate SBN’s power by activating and engaging Philadelphia’s sustainable business owners, employees and customers.

OUR FOCUS

  • To convene a Mayoral candidate’s forum featuring candidates competing in the May primary.
  • To organize delegations of SBN member businesses and allies to meet with candidates for City Council and Mayor.
  • To promote the Good Economy Challenge through creative and engaging use of social, earned and paid media.
