The German Society of Pennsylvania is the oldest German organization of its kind in the US. The location on 611 Spring Garden Street was constructed in 1888 as a gathering place for the German community, and features a robust Library (some books originating from 1783) which includes the first Bible printed in any European language in the US. The Women’s Auxiliary movement was founded in 1900 via the German Society of Pennsylvania to focus on charitable deeds and the preservation of cultural values in the community.  More history and interesting facts can be found here.
